When I started my journey as a finalist for Opulent Models South Africa, I had no idea about the incredible opportunities that were to come. Not only has Opulent Models given me the chance to grow and improve on my skills, but they have also given me the opportunity to meet so many talented people! The Grand Finale was such a prestigious event and I will forever be grateful that I had the privilege of taking part in it!! 

 

Thanks to Opulent Models South Africa, I now have the amazing opportunity to go to London and compete in Top Model Uk!!

As with any part of life, competing on such a high standard, is definitely what you make of it – it can build and grow you as a brand – and person.

During late 2022 I was informed that I am a finalist for OMSA ’23 – excited but unsure what this journey will hold and entail but as a person rooting for personal growth, I went in, ready to work and as we all wish, for a win 🏆.


At the end of February this year the Model Party was held and it was the first time for all entrants to meet each other, this was a fun, well-organized event.
We were afforded the opportunity to receive training from Suzette and the OMSA team on more than one occasion, this was definitely helpful and informative.


As the time drew closer, rehearsal day arrived. I remember walking in the arena, thinking I’ve never done anything like this – this was the BIGGEST ramp I’ve ever walked on…the reality of the moment got the better of me..excited nervous, all in one!
And so Show day was the next day, and not trying to show it, I was super nervous. The moment we were called out by number from backstage, I heard a little voice inside saying “you can do this..” the moment I got onto the ramp infront of the judges and spectators I felt calm, and relaxed- owning my time on the ramp!!


When the winners was announced, I did not except to be called, and once called up, it took me a few seconds to realize that I was called.


I’m extremely grateful for Opulent Models providing us with the great platform.
I will always be grateful and again, thank you for the opportunities and lessons learnt.

Opulent Models Grand Finale was an amazing experience and I was truly blessed to be apart of something so big. Everything leading up to the point of the show has been so wonderful I can’t say it was easy having to sell the tickets and to fund raise to make up to cash to get to Pretoria. As a small town boy from kzn I would’ve never expected to come this far in my modeling career and just to he apart of it was truly amazing. Thank to the Opulent team and Johan for everything. All the memories lessons will stay with me for a life time.

Being nominated as an OMSA Body of the Year 2023 finalists was phenomenal. The journey has taught me a lot and I have met with incredible people.I particularly appreciated the mentorship and training sessions I had, as these helped me prepare for the show, I walked on that ramp physically and mentally sharp . What a life changing moment.

It was a huge shock to receive an email from the CEO informing me that I was a finalist… I was overflowing with emotions because I could not believe I made the cut.


At the Mentor Training and Coaching Day, I realised that so many finalists were experienced, and I had no experience. I thought I would just make a fool of myself, but when I met the Runway Female Winner of 2022, Michaela Brewer and the rest of my category, they took me in and helped me feel more relaxed and comfortable. With the help of Suzette Marais, I fixed my runway walk and was Finale ready. That day taught me that I had to be physically and mentally ready.


We had a few fittings we had to attend. This was a difficult time for me as I had to fly in from Mossel Bay (Western Cape). We barely have any friends and family in Gauteng, so finding an affordable place to stay was a challenge. I was writing tests during the last fitting, so I had to study on the plane. But I got through it. The fact that I am not from the area also made it tough to sell Grand Finale tickets.


The Rehearsal Day was a moment I will never forget! Not only did I make friends with so many new people, I was faced with the reality of the modelling world. But seeing Johan Ungerer, Suzette Marais, Victoria Welthagen, Savannah Zaki, the producer Willie and the rest of the crew I saw dedication and passion! This helped me to put in even more effort.


I will forever be thankful for this experience and will definitely do this again after I finish school. I learnt many things, not only modelling-related but also crucial life skills. If I had to write a motto for Opulent Models it would be “Models first and company second!” For great memories and opportunities, I recommend competing in the 2024 Show.
